Founded by Mariam Nusrat in 2013, GRID is powered by a global team of young professionals who share a passion for video games and social change. We have created games on reproductive health, climate change, health pandemics, animal welfare and STEM learning and have games in the pipeline on child abuse, financial literacy and skills for the future. GRID grew as a Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU) Commitment to Action and has been featured twice on the CGIU stage in sessions moderated by President Bill Clinton.

Grid Story

The GRID team is engaged in an active dialogue around the role of digital games in social change and has presented at numerous high-level events including two Tedx talks in Washington DC by Mariam and two by Rizwan, our CEO, in Pakistan. Mariam is a CGIU Honor Roll Alum and has won the GWU Best Social Venture Prize, SID Andrew Rice Award, GWU Knapp Fellowship and UN PeaceApp prize for GRID. GRID has been featured by 50+ media outlets in the past three years.

GRID exists as two entities, a not-for-profit arm, Gaming Revolution for Inspiring Development (2016) and a for-profit arm, Gaming Revolution for International Development (2013).

Why Now?

We are at the cusp of the next big technology boom: the global penetration of smartphones. With 3.2 billion smartphone users worldwide and a global population of about 7.7 billion, the global smartphone penetration has reached 41.5 percent and is expected to grow exponentially over the next 5 years. We are looking at a world where smartphones as low as $20 are now available in areas where even toilets are a luxury. This boom opens a window of opportunity, to reach the poor through their phones and use simple mobile games as tools for behavior change.

GRID is mainstreaming games in the social sector, not only in the US but also globally. By creating context-vigilant games (in local languages) for low-end smartphones, GRID has opened up the possibility of using games to educate, engage and empower people in all aspects of their lives irrespective of where they live.

GRID prides itself on developing low-cost mobile games that reach a global audience. Our team specializes in:
